FAQS
-
What is GP81YTC?
YTC is short for Youth Training Center.
Our mission with this new endeavor is to provide a space where youth climbers can learn, grow, and explore their limits. The GP81 YTC serves as a gathering place for our youth climbing community to come together and climb. -
Is this space only for children?
The YTC primarily serves as a youth training facility. Adult and public access is available during select days and hours. Visit our home page for details.
-
What separates you from other programs?
We’ve designed our space with the needs of youth climbers as the top priority. From the culture, the coaching, and to even the route setting, everything is designed to help the next generation of climbers and humans be the best version of themselves both in and out of the gym.
-
Do you have a minimum age requirement?
Programs begin at 9+. Our routesetting is specifically designed with kid-sized bodies in mind.
-
Do I have to be on your team to climb there?
No! We offer day passes. We’re working on providing private coaching access and team rentals. Stay tuned and contact us for inquiries.
-
What does my team membership include?
Depending on your tier, between 1-3 coached practices every week, semi-individualized programming, facility access, and competition support. More info here.
-
Do you have ropes?
Only ones for jumping. Our walls are bouldering only.
-
Will you host competitions?
Heck yes.
We hope to host both the GP81 caliber competitions the NYC climbing community has come to know and love, as well as USA Climbing youth events. -
What does the routesetting at YTC look like?
The routesetting at YTC reflects the needs and requests of our team and guests. We have a combination of spray walls and fresh boulders that are regularly reset.
Our routesetters prioritize experimentation and instruction, enabling our coaches to set problems and adjust boulders according to the specific needs of each athlete.
And of course, to have some fun in the process!
-
Will you have a ping-pong table?
This has been flagged as a priority.
